چکیده

There are various landforms in real word and numerous methods proposed previously for DEM generalization. When use different methods to generalize a DEM, the results vary greatly. Therefore, in order to get a most proper method to implement the generalization, we need taking topographic information into consideration. This paper tested four methods widely used in DEM generalization and compared their performances in different landform areas. The results show the compound method delivered the best results among those algorithms. However, the four methods all have its advantages and disadvantages. Thus we can select the most proper one in different practical applications according to their different characteristics.

Large Scale Landform Mapping Using Lidar DEM

In this study, LIDAR DEM data was used to obtain a primary landform map in accordance with a well-known methodology. This primary landform map was generalized using the Focal Statistics tool (Majority), considering the minimum area condition in cartographic generalization in order to obtain landform maps at 1:1000 and 1:5000 scales. Both the primary and the generalized landform maps were verifi...

DEM multi-scale representation based on wavelet multiresolution analysis

In the same area, the terrain details described by DEM are gradually generalized and primary terrain features are only retained in the coarser-resolution DEM. In this paper, wavelet multiresolution analysis and Radical Law selection principles were combined to model the terrain generalizing processes and derive three different scale-parameter DEMs based on DEM data generated by large-scale digi...

Comparison of drainage-constrained methods for DEM generalization

In multi-scale digital terrain analysis, the main goal is to preserve the basic ‘skeleton’ with changing scales and to deliver more consistent measurements of terrain parameters at different scales. The drainage lines serve the basic morphology features and ‘skeleton’ in a basin, and therefore play an important role for most applications. Many drainage-constrained methods for DEM generalization...

Comparison Density and Fractal Dimension of Drainage Networks in Different Scales and Precision Different (Case Study: Ilam Watersheds)

Every phenomena in the nature, despite the complexity of the subject, has certain rules and regulations. River pattern and behavior as one of the most complex natural phenomena to this is not an exception. Depending on geomorphologic, climatic, topographic and erosive conditions, the waterways exhibit different patterns and behaviors. One of the parameters which can be achieved using the comple...

A New DEM Generalization Method Based on Watershed and Tree Structure

The DEM generalization is the basis of multi-dimensional observation, the basis of expressing and analyzing the terrain. DEM is also the core of building the Multi-Scale Geographic Database. Thus, many researchers have studied both the theory and the method of DEM generalization. This paper proposed a new method of generalizing terrain, which extracts feature points based on the tree model cons...
